Matina Phillips began dancing at a young age at Center Stage Dance & Performing Arts Center in Fairfax, VA. Most notably during this time was having the opportunity to perform at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Walt Disney World, and A Tribute to Gregory Hines in D.C. Matina continued her training at Elon University where she received her BFA in Dance Performance & Choreography. As a member of the Elon Dance Company she performed in multiple concerts, including works by Chuck Davis and Leslie Scott. Other credits along the way include interning at Broadway Dance Center in NYC, performing at Arena Stage, and being a Miss North Carolina Dancer. Matina is currently a performer and choreographer with MICH-MASH Productions, has performed with MetroTAP, and was the lead choreographer for The Alliance Theatre’s production of Hairspray. She is also a dance teacher in Fairfax, VA and right here at Contradiction Dance. This is Matina's second season with The Kelly Mayfield Dance Company.
